Our Process - and Why It Works

Traditionally, the processes of Architecture and Interior Design have been treated as distinctly separate disciplines.  However, the isolation of the two is somewhat counterintuitive when it comes to the final product.  The exterior form of a building will shape how an interior space feels; likewise, the desired look and feel of an interior space will affect the requirements of an exterior shell.  The two are inherently interdependent – so why aren’t their processes more typically intertwined?

Through interdisciplinary education and experience, we’ve seen the holes and pitfalls of conventional design processes firsthand.  An Architect may spend hours in conversation with a client about their dream kitchen, but will not typically be involved in the full cabinet detailing or production.  Conversely, an Interior Designer will often come in after the layout and structure of a house are set in stone, then be tasked to deliver the Client’s fairly hefty stylistic requests into the project with very little room – or budget – to give what the Client has been asking for from the beginning.    The separation of the two design processes ultimately leads to communication problems, budget increases, and overall frustration for all parties involved.
